Epoch is a different kind of iOS cover shooter. The three-man team at Uppercut Games designed a control system from the ground-up that makes sense for a touch interface, rather than simply taking dual-stick console controls and throwing them onto a touch screen. Players are always "stuck" to a piece of cover. Swiping left or right rolls from one piece of cover to the next. Tapping an enemy targets them, and by swiping up players pop out of cover and begin firing automatically.
Structurally, Epoch takes more than a few cues from Chair's Infinity Blade. The game only contains ten fairly short stages. But to get the whole story (and to earn enough dough to buy better weapons and equipment) players are required to loop through these stages multiple times, with the difficulty escalating after each loop. Thankfully Uppercut did more than just give the enemies bigger health bars. On Hard far more enemies are thrown at the player at once, in some truly devilish combinations.
